R22 PHASE OUT

CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING THE R22 PHASE OUT

  • Increased risk of systems failure
  • Increased maintenance requirements for ageing systems
  • Exponentially increased running costs
  • Higher CO2 emissions

With January 2015 rapidly approaching, the impact of the R22 phase out is already being felt with new sources of R22 banned and demand for R22 Reclaimed destined to exceed supply levels.

Without the supply of R22, repairs will not be possible resulting in an inevitable downtime and potentially catastrophic consequences, particularly for businesses.

If you currently have equipment which uses R22, you are presented with three options – convert, replace, or leave the system as it is. Your decision should be based on the type of system you operate, its age, condition and efficiency.

It is possible to convert/retrofit equipment using a “drop-in” refrigerant. This can be carried out only by a qualified engineer.

Replacing systems should be a consideration for those which are between ten to twenty years old and less cost-effective to operate. By replacing it with newer, more energy efficient technology, significant savings can be made. Customers may also like to refer to the ECA (Enhanced Capital Allowance) scheme which affords tax relief for those meeting the criteria.

If you elect to continue using your existing equipment, it’s important to consider that from next year it will not be permissible to carry out any service or maintenance work which involves breaking into the refrigerant circuit.

Be one step ahead by calling us today. We can explain the options available to you make the transition from R22 a simple one.
